Labelled

Initially I began to explore the nature of identity within the working class, focusing on football fans and the adopted fashion that has become a subculture and key element in the attendance of a match, commonly known as "the casual'. This look has become a component that crosses the boundaries between supporters of opposing teams, it also transcends into everyday life and nowadays pretty much defines smart casual menswear. However, analysing further as the module has progressed,
I have considered different approaches to the subject, and other influences that come into play. Through a principally practice led approach different concepts on identity given a broader and more sustained element to the subject. My focus will be limited to the region that I live in Greater Manchester,
to retain a responsible environmental approach. Dave Russell, author of Looking North says 'the north has a proud record of contributions within
the fields of literature, fine art and classical music it has been its popular culture, comedy, television, sport, music and associated fashion, that has been its greatest source of regional pride and its most potent contribution
to the national culture. I will be focusing on some popular cultural elements:
Football, the terrace fashions and how they have adapted to what they are now. The grounds and their individual qualities and place within a community.
Music and the different genres and their influences.
Fashion and independent retailers in Manchester. The city itself as an identity.
